LATI REORGANIZATION
South River Region

July 2012
Beginning July 1, 2012,  the eight existing  LATI regional AT centers will operate as seven centers. Those districts currently located under the Region 1 designation (Orleans, RSD-Orleans, PPSB, JPPSS, St. Bernard and St. Charles) will be joined by St. Tammany, Ascension, St. James,  and St. John parishes to comprise the new LATI South River Region. The South River Region will be administered by the Ascension Parish School Board under Special Education Director Susan Vaughn and AT Facilitators Sharon Edwards and Kristie Stapler.  Actual physical relocation of the existing Region 1 AT Center in Belle Chasse, LA will be completed prior to the end of June 2012.  Please contact Katherine C. Shea, Region 1 AT Facilitator, if you have questions and/or comments.

Louisiana Assistive Technology Initiative

Picture
The mission of the Louisiana Assistive Technology Initiative (LATI) is to provide leadership and support to local education agencies and families in the development and implementation of assistive technology services that will have meaningful application for the educational, social, recreational, vocational, and developmental experiences of students with disabilities.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA)

IDEA mandates that school systems address assistive technology when it is required as part of a student’s special education services, related services, or supplementary aids and services. IDEA defines assistive technology as a device and a service.
